Victor Minces’ Sound Shower: An Interactive Sound Art Experience ‍ ‍

Escondido, CA –Join us Friday, April 24 at 6 PM—just before Música en la Plaza—for Sound Shower, an immersive and interactive sound art experience by Victor Minces at the California Center for the Arts. Presented as part of Escondido’s Arts, Culture & Creativity Month.

Step inside. Strike the pipes. Feel the vibrations move through your body. Watch your reflection ripple and distort as the frequencies swirl around you.

The Sound Shower is an interactive public art installation made of large resonant pipes that visitors can play and inhabit. When struck, the pipes produce overlapping tones that interact with each other and with the space itself — filling it with shifting harmonics, beating patterns, and unexpected acoustic textures. The experience is physical as much as it is auditory: the sound doesn't just surround you, it moves through you.

Its creator, Dr. Victor Minces, is a neuroscientist of music, sound artist, and performer. In this presentation, he'll unpack the meaning and science behind the piece and guide the audience through a series of surprising sound explorations using everyday objects and digital tools. The audience will then use these to play, experiment, and make sound together.

 The Sound Shower, and this presentation, are an invitation to expand the way we listen — and rethink our relationship with sound.

Dr. Minces will be joined by Robert Farid Karimi, a cross-disciplinary performer, poet, and social engagement artist who brings playfulness and interactive storytelling to spaces worldwide, and by Vitiá Kulish, a Ukrainian-born pianist and composer based in Southern California. His expressive solo piano music is shaped by reflection, movement, and transformation, and is featured on his upcoming album Roots.

About Victor Minces:‍ ‍

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Victor bridges the worlds of science and art through his work. After beginning his studies in fine arts, he discovered a passion for the physical sciences, leading to a Ph.D. in computational neurobiology from UC San Diego, where he studied how the brain processes visual and auditory signals. As a researcher, he explored the connection between music and human cognition, merging his artistic and scientific interests. He is the creator of ListeningToWaves, a program that brings the awe-inspiring science of sound to hundreds of thousands of students nationwide. As an artist, he seeks to share these experiences with the general public through art installations and public performances.
