I have made several conference presentations about neuroscience and the science of music. Recently, I have been incorporating an element of performance into them. The performance above, at the Copley Symphony Hall, was a collaboration with the San Diego Symphony and the Fleet Science Center, with more than 6000 children and parents attending. In between sets by the Symphony, we made short presentations about the science of sound.

Collective Resonance. Collaboration with the great Brody Hess. Performance at Hillcrest’s Walk in Art. San Diego, CA. Each person in the audience had coffee stirrers, rubber bands, and metal pipes, we explored how objects vibrate and make music and sound, then we played music together. It was magical.

Collective Resonance at the California Association of Science Educators. 500 teachers exploring sound and playing music together.

This performance was made at the Premiere of Experiencing Minces. In it, participants explored how objects vibrate and generate sound. Further, the audience turned into a gigantic human musical instrument, played by my collaborator Amelia Huerta, with guitars by Victor Kulish.
