Moire Mobiles

Two perforated metal plates move in the wind, creating shifting interference patterns with sunlight.

Interference made visible

Two metal plates contain thousands of holes and hang freely in the wind. As they move, light passes through some openings and is blocked by others, producing animated interference patterns known as moire patterns.

The sculpture has been displayed at the San Diego Sculptors Guild in Spanish Village, Balboa Park.
